The senate also told the committee to consult relevant stake holders like the Parents Teachers Association, Academic Staff Union of Universities in order to come up with a more acceptable admission policy.
According to the sponsor of the motion, the new JAMB policy is contrary to the JAMB Act as stipulated in the constitution.
Meanwhile, the senate has asked JAMB to consider increasing the validity of its results from one to three years to reduce the number of yearly applicants.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) is a Nigerian entrance examination board for tertiary-level institutions. The board conducts entrance examinationsfor prospective undergraduates into Nigerian universities. The board is also charged with the responsibility to administer similar examinations for applicants to Nigerian public and private monotechnics, polytechnics, and colleges of educations. All of these candidates must have obtained the West Africa School Certificate, now West African Examinations Council, WAEC, or its equivalent, National Examination Council (Nigeria), NECO.
